Things to consider when choosing a hotel

I spend a lot of time researching hotels before the trip to make sure I am getting the best option I can have. The quality of stay is a very important part of the trip. Here are the things that I consider.

Location

This might be obvious but here's how I approach it. I define what is the main purpose of the trip first. What is the main place I want to see in the city or where I need tp go if it is a work trip. Then I plug in Google Maps the destination and the hotel address and see how fast and convenient will be to get there.

How comfortable it will be for your party

A lot depends on how many people are going on a trip with you and if your hotel choice will be comfortable for everyone. I think that all travelers (including kids) ideally should have their own bed or at least a couch. Don't settle for a great looking room if there won't be enough space.

Hotel Amenities

Everyone has their own priorities: gym, restaurant and bar on site, pool, view etc. I love when hotels have a great design and some kind of unique feature either in the room or on the premises.

Coffee

Ok, this one will be very important in the morning! I prefer when there's coffee machine in the room but I won't complain if there's a nice cafe by the lobby. Especially when it is an outdoor one like at my favorite hotel in San Francisco.

Restaurant options nearby

To be honest, I mostly research this after I book the hotel but I need to get better with planning in advance. I had a situation when after a late check-in I was trying to find where to eat and the best option was to-go sandwiches from a place 15 minutes away. Do your research before booking if eating out is an important part of travel experience for you.

Uniqueness

Sometimes your stay can become even more memorable than exploring the destination. Our time in Utah hiking in Bryce Canyon National Park wouldn't be the same without the amazing stay at Yonder Escalante with private beautifully designed cabins, outdoor showers, and breakfast that was better than in most hotels that I've stayed in this year.
